Platform differences

Neverlag is an app for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV – one subscription for all four. For Amazon Fire TV there is a version for sideloading; Android via Google Play has been announced (“soon”). The Android version is a separate implementation that follows the Apple version; its state may lag behind. The “Android/Fire TV” columns reflect the documented state, not a promise.

Requirements: tvOS 17, iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 or newer. Fire TV: Fire OS 7 or newer (not the first-generation Stick 4K, not the new sticks with Vega OS).

What this means for you

  • Apple TV: recordings only with a NAS. Always dark. Subscription and frame rate via the system settings. The journal goes to the paired iPhone or via QR.
  • iPhone, iPad: recordings end when the app goes into the background. Low Power Mode caps at 60 Hz. ProMotion devices have two additional picture switches.
  • Mac: scheduled recordings run reliably here and on no other platform (app open, sleep off). In full screen, the display switches to the programme’s frame rate.
  • Android, Fire TV: same playback core, but without parental controls, NAS, sending pairing, tour and hints. Fire TV without TV Guide. State according to the parity document; details under Contributing → Open items.
